Story #1

My name is Sandra. I am twelve years old. Ever since I was five my parents were divorced, after my father became disable and sitting in a wheelchair. I am in charge of shopping for glocery, cooking, gardening our house and all the rest of house tasks. My father also cannot speak well, I don't have much friends at school, so don't have much people to talk with. There is only Prince. My dog, I named him Prince because he is the only one to rescue me from my depressing life. Today I went to buy some macaronies and garden gloves. After cooking dinner, Prince and I played in a garden. He digged and I planted flowers. I wanted to surprise my dad, when warm spring comes. I wish he can see my beautiful sunflowers. I want to give a smile to my dad.

He cannot forget to drink coffee before he leaves, to keep him awake from sleep. I also don't forget to pack him a bag of cookie, it is for his dessert after lunch. When he comes home from work, he is very exhausted. For my husband who work so hard, I decided to cook him a very special dinner every night. I went to the supermarket, and grabbed instant coffee, orange juice, margerine, cookies, macaronie, butter and milk. Today I decided to cook him a creamy vodka sauce macaroni. After having a dinner he came close to me and hugged me tightly. He wispered to my ears.
Thank you for preparing the special dinner for today, and for everyday. You are the hard worker in our family more than me. "

C1.

Today, I went to a big market to buy some food with my sons. Few days ago, I decided to be on diet because I feel I am getting fat, and I am not going to buy high-calories food today. As soon as I got in the market, I grabbed a cart, and put thin crackers into it. These are great for appeasing my hunger at any time. Oh, I found some good mint tea... I think it is brand-new, so I put two boxes of mint teas into my cart. I realized that my sister will be happy if I would give one. When I approached to fruit section, I saw fresh peers. I picked up 2 for my sons. When I turned around, I suddenly found that it is one fifteen for each, so I grabbed two more for my husband and me. There were all four pears for my family. While I was sill deciding which rice would be better between Basmati rice and Thai jasmine rice, my sons came to me with toys on their hands. They clamoured for the toys. They wanted even two cars each…I was really confused. I said no at the first time and turned away to choose the rice; however, they kept bothering me like chicks crying for hunger, and I started to feel headache because of that. Finally, I permitted to buy the toys and dropped both Basmati and Thai jasmine rice into the cart. I think I will be in trouble to choose what rice I am going to cook for the dinner tonight.

C2.

I am living alone in Toronto. I am here in a market to buy some food because my sister is coming Toronto from Vancouver tomorrow. Because she does not like coffee, I choose some mint teas that look brand-new. A clerk is displaying some mysterious rice for sampling. I have never heard of the rice, which is called Basmati rice, but it taste good. Umm... Beef with rice will be great for tomorrow’s dinner... so I choose the rice and my favorite Thai jasmine rice. What can be great for dessert after the dinner? I grab a zero Trans fat cracker to eat when we watch tv. When I approach to a cashier, colorful toy cars near the cashier catch my eyes. They remind me my nephews in Vancouver, so I buy four toys to give them by my sister. When the cashier scans the food that I buy, I realize that I forget to grab some fruits! I stop the cashier for a minute, run to the fruit section, and grab some peers. They look fresh and sweet. The whole things come out of about 25 euro. I am really looking forward to have a great time with my sister tomorrow.

On Friday I was shopping for some food to prepare for the picnic on Saturday. I was going to go to a big park near my home with my friends. My friends would bring some food, and I told them that I want to bring some sandwiches. To make sandwiches, I put eggs, juice, and some dessert into my cart already. I thought I should bring coffee as well. Coffee after lunch would be great for all of us. After I filled up my cart with salt, margarine, cereal, and etc. that I need, I found delicious cakes and pies. There were various flavours. I cannot pass the cakes and pies, so I bought four different kinds of dessert; strawberry, blueberry, chocolate cakes and an apple pie. The people who were going with me were three so I bought 4 desserts. I thought I bought everything I need, but at the time, I got a call from my mother not to forget to buy a wrapping paper and gloves. I had totally forgotten about them but thankfully, my mother reminded me. I bought a wrapping paper and gloves at the end, and came back home.

C2.

My parents are gone to the states for a week, so I should make lunch for my sister and brother for a week. I chose to make sandwiches for them and bought wrapping paper, gloves, eggs, and juice. While I was looking for cereal for breakfast, I grabbed 2 Coffee Gold because I thought there is no more coffee left at home. At the seasoning section, I picked up salt and margarine. I think sandwiches with macaroni would be great, so I put it into my cart. After I chose cookies, I thought same sandwiches everyday will make them sick, so I decided to buy pies as well. Because my sister and brother like apple pie and raspberry pie, I bought 2 pies for each flavour. Even though it is not the lunch that mom made, I am pretty sure that they will love it.

But I enjoyed a lot! And luckily, I came to LA but now I only have $50 and I’m really really really hungry… so should I get some food or not? It may sound really silly but I’m really serious………………………………
(5 min later………….)
Ah!! I can’t wait anymore... I don’t mind if you blame me as an impatient person... but for me I need to fill my stomach first then... think about rest later…
Ah, there’s a supermarket… bingo!!! I got chicken sate salad, tea & fruit exotic and 2 kebab….Omg... it coasts $15.28………………………. I’m broke….

Story (1)

Hi, my name is jessica and I’ve been working at a supermarket as a cashier for 6month. Actually, working at a supermarket is really boring… there’s only just repetitive behavior exists such as say hello to customer, use the machine to read barcode from item and get money and give back the exact change. That’s all I do during work hours… So I usually imagined what my customer going to do with what they just bought. It’s really funny.
However, before holiday season and long weekend, we are so desperate and depressed because there’s a lot of work load to us. Ah… today is going be a long day… Wait!! Wow there’s really hot guy in beverage section and he seems like having light that surrounding him… Please come to my position… I want to see his face more closely… please come to me… Oh…. My god… he’s coming towards me.. yea!!
Hi!~(more nicely) and..I try to start little conversation…
….
….
Oh… he might have friends come over because he has wrapping paper, instant coffee, orange juice, rice crackers salt, eggs, muesli, cookies, macaroni, and buttermilk desert… garden gloves??? That doesn’t make any sense… weird…

Story (2)
Today is going be a long day because I have to clean up my house and garden. Recently, I bought a newly built 2 storey house with lovely garden and tomorrow my parents and relatives will visit to see it so I don’t have any choice… Actually, I would take a rest with my parents during my long weekend peacefully but… they invited close relatives…. Maybe they are so proud of me… Anyway, I have to make a list which I must buy today first. I need wrapping paper for my cousin’s present, instant coffee, orange juice, rice crackers salt, margarine, garden gloves, eggs, muesli, cookies, macaroni, buttermilk desert.. Not too many~ Ok!
I’m really new to this neighborhood so I‘d better go big market across the street… hmm… not bad. Actually, better than my expectation! But I found some strange stare from cashier… It makes me uncomfortable… Why is she staring at me?? I don’t know…… and there’s only her at cashier… damn it! I went to her … and she tries to keep saying something… and I just want to get out of this place…

Jack is a lumberjack, on his way t
o a 24-hour lumber jacking competition. Stopping by a department store he buys some coffee, cream and tea biscuits, for a snack and to keep him awake throughout the event. He also buys a handsaw. Now you may wonder why a lumberjack on his way to the Official Lumberjack 24 Hour Endurance Trial would need to buy a handsaw at the last minute. He doesn’t. He always keeps in his trusty tool belt a solid titanium, diamond tipped handsaw worth, like, at least 20 bucks. The reason Jack bought this 4-dollar handsaw is because he likes to buy cheap crappy saws that shatter in his hands as he’s sawing. It looks very dramatic indeed and impresses the beavers.

Ode to Joes. (L)

Joe was your average, well, Joe. He worked hard for the money and didn’t ask any questions. The kind of guy you see driving the old Chevy truck down the 407. You don’t ask him where’s he’s going, you don’t even give him a second glance. Burly kind of fellow who likes his beer cold and his onion cheeseburger hot of the grill. Guys like Joe come a dime a dozen. They come and go as they please and they disappear into the night. If you asked Joe where he came from, he would simply grunt and give his beer another sip. Strong silent type. Not a care in the world. Just the smirk on his face, and a cigar pack wedged into the back pocket of his navy blue work overalls. Seems like a no body, but guys like Joe keep our world running. They work in our oil refiners. In our shipping docks. In our forests and in our farms. You may even see them in your city, picking up your garbage. Building that new condo and fixing that old fence. They eat and they sleep. The come. And they go. You see them once and their gone. They are the back bone of our country. To all the Joes in the world -- thank you.

Suger! (D)

Annie was a sugar fiend

She’d eat and eat till she turned green

Her favorite snacks were lollypops

She brushed her teeth with candy drops.

Cookies, cupcakes, donuts too

She’d have a dozen, maybe two.

All she earned she spent on sweets

On biscuits, gummies, and on treats.

Coke and Pepsi, lemonade

“where’s all the money that you made?”

“In my tummy,” she’d reply.

Singing her sugar lullaby.

When oh when will Annie learn?

When her waste is a balloon?

When she cannot walk or stand?

When she cannot reach or bend?

When each tooth will have a hole?

Instead of walking she will roll!

To the dentist! To the gym!

To the pool to swim! Swim! Swim!

Rachel Supermarket Narrative #2

Yawn, stretch, fall back asleep
But tummy grumbles, time to eat
I rub my eyes and brush my teeth
Fluff my pillow, fold my sheets

No one’s home no need to dress
Toss slippers on, leave hair a mess
Do nothing more and nothing less
It’s the weekend, I get to rest

Down the stairs and past the den
I’m getting into my morning Zen
The clock reads only 7:10
My tummy grumbles once again

Good God! The kitchen looks like hell!
The floor is sticky, what’s that smell?
The kids have done this, I can tell
I see their shoe prints and hair gel

Bowls dirty in the sink
Crusty plates push me to the brink
Cupboards bare, no tea to drink
Without caffeine I cannot think!

I scratch my head, sigh heavily
Ok now I have to pee
Go to wipe, there’s no TP
Goddamn my lazy family!

All I want’s my tea and toast
With sugar, milk; a pack of smokes
I grab my wallet, I grab my coat
To market I must go

I grab the wheel, turn the key
I’m listing all the things I need
When I’m mad, I tend to speed
Especially since I have yet to eat

Crookedly I park my car
Cranky now, I grab a cart
I head inside the Food-O-Mart
My grocery shopping, I do start

So much for my Saturday
With kids this is the price to pay
Cook and clean no time to play
Maybe when I’m old and gray.

Rachel Supermarket Narrative #1

Carmel Jane and Candice Jones
Just can’t leave their sweet teeth alone
Chocolate, gummies, sweets galore
You’d think they own a candy store

Breakfast is 3 cups of juice
Followed by caramelized fruit
Dipped in yoghurt for some flare
And no! The sugar won’t end there

Snack time comes at 10:13
Syrupy biscuits and Chocó creams
Schogetten chocolate and gummy bears
Candy wrappers rip and tear

Bright red Smarties, they do yearn
It helps them focus, helps them learn
Add, subtract and long divide
Twelve, eat seven, left is five

Hazel, pea and coconuts
Almond cake yet to be cut
Kit Kat Minis on to munch
All this makes a solid lunch

Now for dinner, what to eat?
Rich dark chocolate’s quite the treat
Stacked 6 feet high upon a plate
It’s the leaning tower of After Eight’s!

Bedtime stories, brush the teeth
Wash away those cavities
Climb in bed, its time to dream
Of more chocolate bars and candy creams!

Receipt Story #4 (same receipt)
I can’t eat anymore rice. Rice for breakfast, rice for lunch.. “Oh, darling, don’t forget your lunch! It’s rice with korma today!”… rice for dinner! I can’t stand it anymore! I see my other friends, they had sandwiches for lunch, they have burgers, they have pizza. And you know what my mom says on this? “Oh, darling, they all are going to get fat when they grow up.” So, she never spares change for me so I can buy a slice of pizza for myself. Well, but sometimes I see these white kids who never tried our delicious rice and I sell my lunch, well, I trade actually, with their lunches. Damn, do they love it. They say it’s tastiest rice dish they ever ate! Well, it’s Afghan rice, what do you want! We prepare it differently then let’s say Indians cook, or Pakistani people, and I’m not even talking about Chinese rice. Chinese rice is always so sticky and thick. If you ever saw our rice, when it’s cooked, it’s like an inch long! And it’s never EVER sticky! “It’s like when you eat it, you don’t feel full at all. Give me more! Give me more!” my friend Gorge once told me when I invited him over. But damn, am I sick of this rice! I love it and all but can my mom cook something different once in a while!?!?!

Receipt Story #1

I saw her in the subway the other day. I was late for my work but when I saw her I forgot about everything I was doing or I was going to do. I even started talking to her. I couldn’t believe how easy we went along, well, all my friends know that girls are not on my best to do list. Anyways, she’s from India as I found out. But once she told me that I couldn’t believe right away. I mean, her skin was fair and her hair died. As she later on told me, her family is modern, so she can date, go out, be late, have male friends over and stuff. I was surprised to hear all that because I am so used to dating white girls, and I never heard of all these restrictions. So tonight I’m going to prepare for us a romantic dinner and I will cook. I know she doesn’t drink though, so I guess tea with some exotic fruits will work well, I personally love fruits and a date without alcohol… well, I guess it’s worth a shot. SHE is worth a shot. I also had to research about their cuisine and I found out that they have all sorts of this interesting mean dish they often cook, it’s called KEBAB, so they have it differently. I’m going to, I guess, a grocery store and I hope to find it there. I hope… But I am not that good of a cook so I guess I should be something that would already be prepared. They have those au-sortie salads at Dominion so I might take something from there. Maybe, chicken salad or something, because she told me that she doesn’t like sea food, so it must me definitely chicken then, if my beef kebab is not going to work out. Damn, I’m so hooked up with this girl, I am ready to even take off one day from my busy crazy business I’m spinning in right now…

Receipt Story #2

That’s freaking sick, man! I don’t even have time now to prepare real food! I mean, I’m spinning and spinning and spinning! I’m so sick of this ready-to-eat food! I want real food! I want to go back to my mom! She always cooks at home. Of course, she has time. But what me? Look at me now – I’m at work all day, and when I come home there’s no loving and caring wife there to cook for me. Well, I do have a girlfriend, but we don’t live together. I mean, it’s such a commitment, I don’t know yet where our relationship is going. And I’m pretty scared to talk to her about it. I don’t know how she’s going to react if I tell her to move in with me. But then what, I will expect her to cook for me? No, this has to come from a heart. She has to want to do it by herself. But she’s going to have work too, she’s going to be tired too. And then again we’ll have to either go to some restaurant or order some take-out or I don’t know, the worst, we’ll have to enjoy our evenings with PIZZA! No, tonight was the last time I bought something that I don’t have to cook. Tomorrow will be a new day, new day of real food. Yes, I will cook MYSELF!
