Elements in a design should be aligned with one or more elements. By aligning components of a desgin, one creates a discernable and stable sturcture. The viewer is able to follow (or have their eye directed) through a design by how the elements are aligned. Strong vertical and horizontal lines or elements force the viewer to "read" it in a certain way (most often left to right, top to bottom). This strategy is most prevelant in charts and other grid-like designs.![http://www.ff.up.pt/spf/ephar2004/bus_schedule.jpg](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/blogger_img_proxy/AEn0k_shSLL-h17DQhtbCIC0EFavHfk0WG_NidYZam62dTgOxkBY2WsBziHXwjlKHeNrGyEJN0PHkzUyW4pbAewmVB0mQqVjx_7pNxk7zGCLwBs4MoXdJVDm=s0-d)
